Ernestine Green, age 88, departed this life, after a lengthy illness, on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at St. Ann's Hospital. She was born December 22, 1928 in Houston, TX to the late Arthur and Thelma (Woods) Green. She attended Jack Yates High School. At 17, she moved to New York City and worked for Schreiber Jewelry and the United States Postal Service until her retirement in 1992. Ernestine then relocated to Columbus and worked for the CMACAO Neighborhood House. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Helen (Andrew) Hendrix, Phyllis, Elizabeth, Marion and Linda Murphy, brothers Arthur, Jr., Donald and Raymond Green and Walter Murphy. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Porter of Columbus, OH; sisters, Bobbie Green O'Neal of Houston, TX and Marva Green Hills of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; guardian and special nephew, Vincent (Lorri) Hendrix of Columbus, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Family and friends may visit 10 a.m.- 12 noon on Thursday, February 16, at Hope Lutheran Church, 820 Lilley Ave, where a funeral service will follow at 12 noon. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
