Herbert L. "Herb" Maynard, age 82, peacefully slipped away from us at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2011. Things he loved and enjoyed were his family, nice cars, riding motorcycles, cowboy boots and eating. Before retirement he had been a front-end alignment mechanic at Scanlon Tire Company, which was located at the corner of Grant and Gay Streets in downtown Columbus. He could drive a car once and by listening to the engine sounds or feeling the tire vibrations, he could tell you exactly what was wrong with it. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Marjorie Elaine Maynard; daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Thom Cottingham; Shirley and Gary Barnes; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Amy Maynard; grandchildren and spouses, Lori and Jeff Kirby; Bryan and Bobbie Sue Stevens; great-grandchildren, James Stoneking and Jake Sporck, Santanna Jude and Destiny Stevens; sister and fianc, Elsie Hale and Gene Long; nieces, nephews and loved pet, Prince. He was preceded in death by son, Kenny and brother, Delmar. Friends may call today 10-11 a.m. at the O. R. WOODYARD FUNERAL HOME, 1346 S. High Street, where a combined funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. for him and his mother, Beatrice Preston, age 99, who passed away on Monday, August 22, 2011. Rev. Owen Stotts officiating.
