John Karst, age 88, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2014, in his home surrounded by his family. John is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Susanna; his four children, Rosmarie Crist, Mary Stephenson, John Karst Jr.,and Richard Karst; sister, Susanna Antoniewitz; brother, Georg Karst; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his two sisters, Maria Fleischer and Rosemarie Karst. John was born September 6, 1926 in Sieberburgen, Botsch,Rumanien. In 1944 John left his homeland in a horse drawn Conestoga Wagon and traveled to his new home in Salzburg Austria. John married his wife, Susanna in 1951and later that year they welcomed their first daughter. In1952 John and his family moved to America where he was blessed with his second daughter and two sons. As well as being a loving husband and proud father, John was a longtime member of Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church and Peace Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Saxon Club where he served as president for 16 years and a member of the Germania Club of Columbus where he celebrated his German heritage with friends from his homeland. John was co-founder and owning partner of Lassel and Karst Masonry from which he retired at the age of 62. John enjoyed hunting with his family and boating on Lake Erie. The family will receive friends at the O. R.WOODYARD CO. CHAPEL 1346 S. High Street Sunday, December 21, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The funeral will be at the funeral home on Monday at 11 am. Reverend Dr. Kai Nilsen officiating. Interment to follow at Headley Cemetery, Blacklick, OH.
