Marilyn Jean Sindel, 89, of Columbus, died peacefully in her Mayfair Village Apartment surrounded by family at 8 AM on Thursday, May 14, 2015 after a brief struggle with cancer. Marilyn was born, the 8th of 12 children, in Richmond Dale, Ohio, on November 23, 1925 to Pennoky Edna Davis Wood and John Henry Wood. After early years in southern Ohio, Marilyn moved with family to Columbus, where she attended Indianola Jr. High and North High Schools, graduating from North High in 1944. Marilyn met and married Robert Berkemer, in 1947. She is survived by their four children, Robert (Kirsten), Menomonie, WI, Michael, Honeoye Falls, NY, Tom (Paula), Atlanta, GA, and Linda (Paul) Boldin, Columbus, and two grandchildren, Christopher Berkemer and Paul John (PJ) Boldin. She later married Dr. Walter Sindel of Gahanna, Ohio, who preceded her in death. Marilyn is survived by two sisters, Helen Polen, Chilicothe, OH, and Iris Raver, Westerville, OH, and a sister-in-law, Marcia Wood, Reynoldsburg, OH. She is predeceased by sisters, Ruth Ferrari, and Glenna Roy, and brothers Emmett, John, Jr., Glendon, Robert, Guy, Harry, and Bill Wood. Marilyn also leaves behind many, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and kind friends. Marilyn was employed by Ohio Bell after high school, and later by Vorys Law Firm and Riverside Methodist Hospital, but children and homemaking became her true vocation. She loved to cook, bake, sew and garden. She volunteered at Riverside Methodist Hospital for many years, loved ballroom dancing and clogging, and attended monthly reunions with North High School friends until her death. She was a member of the North High Alumni Association and Clintonville Women's Club. The family wishes to thank everyone who helped care for her during her last illness. Friends may visit from 2-5 PM on Tuesday, May 19, at O.R. WOODYARD Northwest Chapel, 2990 Bethel Rd. A private graveside service will be held at Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to OhioHealth Hospice will be appreciated.
