July 22, 1954 - June 30, 2021
Sharon “Shari” Louise Wood Bonner passed away June 30, 2021, in Columbus. Shari was born July 22, 1954, in Columbus, Ohio, to James Burl Wood and Margaret J (Smith) Wood. Her brother James Edward Wood followed on June 21, 1958. As a child, she sang and danced on the occasional TV talent show. She graduated with honors from Franklin Heights High School in 1972. Over the next few years she was a server at the Wine Cellar, meeting Bob Hope, Joan Crawford and John Davidson among others. In 1979, she followed her recently widowed mother to Anaheim, California where Shari met her future husband Ian A. W. Bonner. They married September 22, 1984, in Newport Beach, California, honeymooning at Lake Tahoe and San Francisco. At this time, Shari was executive assistant to a vice president in the computer industry and managed trade show participations in numerous industry trade shows, traveling throughout the country. She then managed fund raising events for the American Diabetes Association of Orange County. In 1991, Shari gave birth to her son, Ian J.A. Bonner. She developed an interest in property management, and took over management of Cedar Streams Apartments in Riverside, California, where her mother resided, and commenced an improvement program that transformed the complex to “A-1” status in the market. As a member of the Peace Lutheran Church’s Women’s Group, she produced a Christmas pageant with mom’s reading Christmas stories, Carole group singing and kids singing Christmas songs. In 2003, Shari and Ian agreed that moving back to Columbus would be beneficial to the child’s growth and education and she could teach her husband about Ohio State football. Shari pursued her passion for property management in Central Ohio, managing apartment complexes and individual properties for investors. She always strove to develop a community and spirit of camaraderie within the apartment complex, at which she succeeded often. She did many wonderful things for those around her. In 2013 she attained her Associate Degree in Real Estate, Cum Laude from Columbus State College. She was delighted to attend the wedding of son Ian to Alison Gersper of Columbus, last June. Shari was an extraordinary person with an enormous heart. She was a force of nature and left a lasting impact on anyone and everyone she met. She improved the lives of many, and lit up any room she entered. She had a love of travel, spending time with family, and bingo. Her loss will be felt both nationally and internationally as she leaves behind family and friends that loved her deeply. Shari is survived by her loving husband, Ian, her son Ian and his wife Alison, her brother James, her niece Mindi and her family and her loyal hound Louis. She is preceded in death by her parents James and Margaret. A memorial service is to be held on Friday, July 9, at the O.R. Woodyard Northwest facility, 2990 Bethel Rd. 5pm Visitation and 7pm Memorial Service.
