William N. Petikas

William N. Petikas age 91 of Hilliard Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by family January 26th. He was born January 17th, 1931 in Kardamyla, Chios, Greece. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Viola Petikas. He is survived by his loving children Michael Kontras (Lonna), Nick Kontras, Renee Petikas (Aaron), David Petikas (Beth) ten grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was a child in Greece during WWII and told stories of the occupation of Chios and how his father would provide food for the families during that time. He emigrated to America in 1951 by “jumping” ship in Newport News, Virginia. He learned the language and pursued a career as a restaurateur. He married the love of his life, Viola, in 1961 and became a U.S citizen in 1964. He was a co- owner of George’s Coney Island for many years. In 1968 the legendary Forest Park Inn opened. Family, friends, customers, and dedicated employees created some of the fondest memories of his life. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, ball room dancing with his wife Viola, vacations with family in Greece, Florida and Utah. He loved to sing especially Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. The last seven years he lived with son David (Beth) and cherished the time with his grandchildren immensely. His kind, gentle, loving devotion to his family and everyone he met will always be remembered and his memory will be eternal. The family will receive friends Monday, January 31, 2022 from 5-7 pm at the WOODYARD NORTHWEST CHAPEL 2990 Bethel Rd. where there will be a Trisagion Prayer Service at 5 pm. The funeral will be Tuesday, February 1st at 10 am at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral 555 N. High Street in Columbus. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Annunciation Greek Ortrhodox Cathedral in memory of William.
