Alice Marie
Dawson
May 2, 1937 — Aug 16, 2026
Alice Dawson, affectionately known as Punkin, age 89, passed peacefully, surrounded by family and loved ones, on Sunday, August 16. Born to Albert and Hazel Schleppi on May 2, 1937, Alice was a lifelong resident of the area. She was proud of her upbringing and often shared stories about her life on the farm—picking strawberries, milking cows, and gathering eggs. She graduated from Groveport High School in 1955 and spent her life here, working several careers while raising her two girls. Alice's home was a place where family, friends, and neighbors were always welcome. During her daughters' high school years, there were always snacks to share and a game of cards to enjoy. Her love of hospitality continued throughout her life as she opened her home for family gatherings, sewed costumes, dresses, and pajamas for her grandchildren, as well as an immense variety of Christmas cookies. Alice was an avid gardener, volunteer, and devoted fan of Ohio State men's basketball, especially her favorite former player, Aaron Craft. Her family knew it was best not to call her while a game was on. Her greatest happiness was found in the love she had for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Guma, as she was affectionately called by all of them, would often remark on how much joy they brought her. Her love of being a grandma was evident in the warmth and devotion she showed to each child. Alice is survived by her daughters, Lin and Suzy; granddaughters, Kasey, Sunny (Mike), Jordan, Jenna (Eric), and Jade; great-grandchildren, Owen, Spencer, Gwen, Brynn, Austin, Gray, and Atticus; her extended family and dear friends, Margaret, Nancy, and Bev. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Alice's name to the American Cancer Society or Zusman Hospice. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 20th. More details to follow.
