Barbara Susan Black (Montle), went home to be with the Good Lord on August 17, 2024. She was born on May 22, 1940 in Carthage Township, Athens, Ohio and graduated from Carthage Troy High School. She worked her entire life as a seamstress in different places over many years. Her family and her faith were always the most important things in her life. She has been a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Guysville, Holy Family in Columbus, and Christ the King in Athens until she had to stop going to take care of her husband. Children adored her and were drawn to her gentle nature, she made space for all she could, and always had a full cookie jar of homemade cookies for those surprise visits. Barbara always had words of wisdom for her loved ones when they asked, but supported decisions that were made by each person. Barbara was an avid reader, seamstress, plant and flower lover, and OSU Buckeye fan for as long as she could be; and she spent her free time caring for those whom she loved. She was truly a remarkable woman with the patience of a Saint. Barbara was the thread that held her family's tapestry together and made sure family always came first. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hollis Black of almost 53 years; infant son, Hollie R. Black Jr.; her parents, J. Isadore and Anna Mary Kinnen Montle; her sisters, Reta Robinson, Irene Hardgraves, Joan Dillinger; infant brother, John Henry Montle; brothers, Ralph, Joe, and Basil Montle; her oldest son, Daniel Black; daughter-in-law, Kathy Black; and several other family members. She is survived by her children, Susan Jared (Mike), Tom Black, John Black (Diane), Samuel Black (Melody), and Anthony Black; her grandchildren, Angie, Doris Ann, Wendy, Nicole, Michael, JB, Joy, Christina, Danny, and Emily; great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Barbara will truly be missed and this world has lost a bright ray of light. Visitation for Barbara will be Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the O.R. WOODYARD CO. South Chapel, 1346 S. High St. in Columbus, OH. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 75 Stewart St. in Athens, Ohio on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 9:30am, with burial following at St.Johns Cemetery 3176 Dutch Ridge Rd. in Guysville, Ohio at 11 a.m.
