Betty J. Kippen, 94, passed away on June 29, 2026, at Violet Springs Health Campus in Pickerington, Ohio, where she had lived for six years.
Betty was born on December 21, 1931, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to Vera and Orvil "Pete" Hayes, and was the oldest of five children. She was married to Harry Scott for 25 years; together they had Jerry (1951), Ron (1952), and Vickie (1955-1972), who tragically passed away in 1972 at age 17 after being struck in a vehicle collision while waiting for the school bus.
Betty worked for the Ashtabula Post Office and later for Ashtabula County Jobs and Family Services, where she was hired in 1975 and earned retirement benefits through OPERS.
Betty married Norm Kippen in 1981, and they remained together until his death in 2013. In 2007, they moved from Ashtabula to Columbus, Ohio, to be closer to family.
Betty is survived by her sons, Jerry Scott (Pam) and Ron Scott (Linda); her brother, Irvin Hayes (Martha); grandchildren, Jennifer Jardine (Chris), Sybil Brickerand Jay Sposito; step-grandchildren, Bernie Frankl (Amanda), Katie Summers (Brent), and Jenny Frankl (Steve Lewis); great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Robertson, Kayla Henry (Kris), and Anthony Sposito; and step-great-grandchildren, Luke Summers, Ava Summers, Mark Frankl, Kaya Lewis, and Joe Jardin; her niece and nephews and their families; Renee ManWaring, Steve ManWaring, and Ray Hayes, Doug Hayes, and Irvin Jr. Hayes.
Betty will be cremated, and her ashes will be interred in Ashtabula, Ohio, at a later date.
