Betty Jean Rush of Columbus, Ohio, passed from this life on Mother's Day, May 10, 2020 at the age of 89. Born in Grand Island, Nebraska on August 13, 1930, Betty moved to Columbus in the early 1960s. She worked at the Shoe Corporation of America (SCOA) as an office manager. In 1965, Betty married James Joseph Rush, and they lived happily ever after for 54 years. After retiring from SCOA in the early 1980s, Betty worked several years part-time with the Columbus Public Schools in food service (a lunch lady). For over 20 years Betty volunteered at the Golden Hobby Shop in German Village where co-workers and customers were drawn to her charm, class, and genuine love for people. Betty and Jim had an incredible passion for excellence, style, and grace in all they did. Their lives were infused with generosity and prudence, buying quality and taking care of it, and helping others. They figured things out, and they took care of business. Betty and Jim shared a strong faith in God and a robust love for life. And boy, could they cut a rug-dancing regularly into their 80s. Betty's outgoing affection (she was a hugger) brings more pathos to this cruel Covid-19 pandemic. We could not be with her; and she could not be with us, when the virus struck. Betty loved much and was much loved. We will miss her, and her presence will live on with the many people whose lives she touched. For a long time. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, James Rush, father, William Shriner, mother, Mary Shriner and sister, Patty Wilson (Bill). Survivors include her sister, Donna Tagge (Don) of Carthage, Missouri; sister, Phyllis Fridley (Jerry) of Columbus, Ohio; Nieces and nephews, Kimberly Rozendaal (Dave) of Carthage, Missouri, William Fridley (Carolyn) of Durant, Oklahoma, Michael Fridley of Columbus, Ohio, William Wilson (Anna) of Norfolk, Virginia, and Anita Sabol (Steve) of Charlotte, North Carolina.
