In Loving Memory of William "Billy" Wells

William "Billy" Wells, 82, peacefully entered eternal rest, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we are grateful for the incredible legacy he leaves behind—a legacy built on kindness, generosity, hard work, and an unwavering love for his family and friends.

William was born to his beloved mother, Mildred McCann, and was lovingly raised by his father figure, George Gilliem, whose guidance, love, and unwavering support helped shape the remarkable man he became.

William proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he dedicated 23 years of hard work to Hi State Beverage before later working in the Walmart Optical Department, where he continued to touch the lives of those around him with his kindness and dedication.

Outside of work, William found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved cooking meals that brought everyone together, creating beautiful artwork and drawings, taking pride in his yard, traveling, and spending time at the casino. One of his greatest passions was camping. For more than 25 years, he created countless memories with family and friends at Lost Hollow Campground in Logan, Ohio. To William, camping wasn't just a hobby—it was where stories were shared, laughter echoed, and lifelong friendships were made.

If William had something and someone else needed it, he gave it without hesitation. It didn't matter what it was. If someone called him at any hour of the day or night needing help, he was there. He never expected anything in return. His generosity, compassion, and willingness to help others defined the kind of man he was.

Above all else, William's greatest pride and joy was his family. He shared an extraordinary 62 years of marriage with the love of his life, Patricia Wells. Together they built a life centered on love, loyalty, and family, creating countless memories that will be treasured forever.

William was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mildred McCann; his father figure, George Gilliem; his beloved son, Billy Wells; his beloved sisters, Betty Bishop and Lynn Wells; and his lifelong friends, Jack Higgins, Danny Walker, and Marvin McCann.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Patricia Wells; his son, John Wells; and his daughter-in-law, Corrlina Wells. He was a proud and loving grandfather to John Jr. Wells, Calli Wells, and Cody Parks, and a devoted great-grandfather to Kobe Parks and Cody Jr. Parks, who brought him endless pride and happiness.

He is also survived by his beloved nieces: Lisa Higgins (Dan Canfield) and their daughter, Taylor; Tonya Morse (Tylan Simms); and Denise Karnes.

He is also survived by his beloved nephews: Darren Higgins (Marty) and their daughter, Chelsea; Jack Higgins; Dwayne Higgins (Brandie) and their daughters, Brooke and Macy; and Marty Morse; as well as many other cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, camping friends, neighbors, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by his kindness and generosity.

Whether gathered around a campfire at Lost Hollow Campground, sharing one of his home-cooked meals, or listening to one of his many stories, those who knew William knew they were in the presence of someone truly special. The memories he created will be cherished for generations to come.

To know William was to know unconditional love. He was the storyteller everyone gathered around to hear, the cook who made sure no one ever left his home hungry, the artist whose creativity reflected his gentle spirit, the man who took pride in every yard he cared for, and the grandfather whose love had no limits. His life was a beautiful example of what it means to love without conditions, to serve others without expecting anything in return, and to always put family first.

His absence leaves an emptiness that can never truly be filled, but his love and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy will live on in every family gathering, every camping trip, every meal shared around the table, every helping hand offered to someone in need, and every story that begins with, "Remember when Pal…"

Though we grieve his passing, we find comfort in knowing he has been reunited with those who went before him, including his beloved son, his sisters, and the lifelong friends who meant so much to him. His love, laughter, and generous spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

A devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, loyal friend, United States Navy veteran, and truly one of a kind, William lived a life that mattered. Though we say goodbye with heavy hearts, we find peace knowing his love, wisdom, and memories will continue to guide us until we meet again.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever remembered.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 24, 2026 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12 p.m. at the O.R. WOODYARD CO. South Chapel, 1346 S. High St. in Columbus, OH. Pastor Randy Landrum will officiate. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, OH.
