Obituary

Bounthong Ratsavong, age 76, of Columbus, OH passed away on July 4th 2022 surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born on June 30, 1946 and grew up in Village Tathan, Laos. He was the oldest child of Mr. Sout and Mrs. Manithong Vonglakhon. After he completed elementary and secondary education at City of Champasack, he was enrolled and completed the school of Agriculture and Forestry in Vientiane, Laos. Upon his graduation, he accepted a position at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry at Pakse, province Champasack where he had a very accomplished educational career. He later continued his education in Thailand. Bounthong was fluent in Lao, Thai, Vietnamese, Khmer, French and English. Bounthong worked as a government clerk for the Lao government. He married his wife, Khamkong Ratsavong, in 1971. Due to political climate changed in Laos, he led his family to escaped Laos to Napho Refugee Camp in Thailand. He worked at the refugee camp before he applied to come to the United States. In 1986, Boungthong and the family resettled in Columbus, Ohio where he and the family members worked hard to adjust to the American culture and system to pursue freedom and better opportunities for his family. While in America, he worked as a head chef at a restaurant and worked 2nd shift at AY Manufacture for 10 years. He also worked multiple side jobs to support his family. Bounthong made sure to always do what he could so that his wife could be a great mother to their beautiful children. He made sure he did everything he could to ensure that his children will be self-sufficient in life. He enjoyed working for those companies until he retired. Upon his retirement, Mr. Bounthong served as the member of the Wat Lao Buddhamamakaram where he participated in many donation projects. Bounthong was compassionate, hard-working, and a strong man. He put everyone's needs before his own. One of the main reasons he continued his treatment was to be a warrior for his children and grandchildren. Bounthong is survived by his wife, Khamkong, 7 children - Somchay, Viengxay, Phetsamay, Khamphanh, Malaykham, Vilayphanh, and Manivanh. His 5 children in law - Mike, Lynn, Sang, Daonoi, Cynthia, and Jeremy.
