Charles E. Kountz III, age 76, passed away on Tuesday May 12, 2026.   Born in Columbus, Ohio on July 21, 1949.  Charles graduated from West High School class of 1969.   He then served his country in the US Army during Vietnam and received a Purple Heart during his service.  He retired from the State of Ohio Department of Corrections.   Charles' favorite things included everything that pertained to his grandchildren; he never missed a game, tournament, or competition.  They were his world!  He loved fishing throughout his life, often going to Lake Erie with his best friend Don Miller. Enjoyed watching Ohio State Football and NFL games.  He took great pride in helping Veterans within the community and volunteered at Columbus Veteran Center several days a week, where he made many good friends. Preceded in death by parents, Charles E. and Vivian (Hixson) Kountz Jr; sister, Suzanne McClelland.  Survived by daughter, Nicole and Brad Arnold; grandchildren, Chase Arnold, Landon Arnold and Aubrey Arnold; longtime companion, Patricia Winrod; sister, Christine and Bruce Hackley; brother-in-law, Tim McClelland.  Family will receive friends at O. R. WOODYARD CO. South High Chapel, 1346 S. High Street, Columbus, Ohio on Monday, May 18, 2026, from 9:30 am until the time of funeral service at 11:30 am.  Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery with Military Honors.
