Charles Richard
Manring, Sr.
Sep 14, 1931 — Jan 13, 2025
Charles Richard Manring Sr., age 93, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025. Charles was born on September 14, 1931 in Columbus, Ohio to William and Ann (Walkowicz) Manring. He graduated from Mifflin High School and served two years in the US Army, mostly stationed in Alaska. Charles married Arlayne in 1957. They raised four sons and spent nearly 66 years together until she passed in 2023. Charles spent most of his working years as an automobile mechanic and retired from Sears after 25 years. Charles and Arlayne enjoyed their retirement camping and travelling the country in their motor home. Charles camped throughout his life, and some of his children''s and grandchildren''s best memories are from their camping trips.
Charles worked hard, was resourceful and good with his hands. He could come across as gruff (and yes, at times grumpy), but he was thoughtful, generous, and took care of his family. Charles often cooked and could throw just about anything together to make a meal. Family always knew they could show up unannounced and be welcomed at the table, where they''d be sure to get a good meal and also some entertainment from Charles'' classic stories. His family will remember these stories fondly and are forever grateful to have known such a good and caring man.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Arlayne (Bickerdt) Manring, as well as his parents, William and Ann. He is survived by his sons, Bill (Therese), Edward, Charles Jr. (Anita), and Thomas; his grandchildren, Danielle (Jason), Samantha (Mason), Zachary (Anupreet), and Nicholas (Brittany); his great-grandchildren, Maximus, Dominic, Gianna, Remy, Reece, Rory, Arianna, Isaiah, and Khivi.
