Charles Richard “Rick” Armstrong, age 72, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026, in Circleville, Ohio with his family by his side. Born in Springfield, Ohio on August 6, 1954 to the late Winona (Allen) and Charles Albert Armstrong. He grew up in Canal Winchester, Ohio. He graduated from Eastland Vocational Center in 1972 and went on to a career as an auto mechanic. Rick was a hard worker and always had a project, whether it was building beautiful furniture for his family, working on cars for hours or tinkering in his yard. He never knew a stranger and was always first to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. After retirement, he volunteered at his church, where he took meticulous care of the lawn and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He was devoted to his family and was so proud of his grandchildren to whom he loved being “Papaw” and would have been so excited to meet his great granddaughter, due on November 24th, his and Vanessa’s 25th wedding anniversary date.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Susie and her husband, Larry Landis; nephew, Eric Platt; and brother-in-law, Bill Stiver. He leaves behind his wife, Vanessa Armstrong; son, Rick (Jennifer) Armstrong; stepsons, Travis (Misti) and Tyler Rife; grandchildren, Brock and Tanner Armstrong, Taylor (Josh) Bell, Macie and Greyson Rife; sister, Diane (John) Platt; brother, Jeff (Melissa) Armstrong; sister-in-law, Vicky Stiver; nieces and nephews; friend, Sandy Taylor; and loyal pets, Ruby and Maggie.
The family would like to thank Kelley and the staff at the Samaritan Center in Lancaster for their wonderful care in providing a safe and nurturing place for Rick to visit each week; and in his final hours, we are grateful to nurse Marissa, and the hospice nurses and hospice chaplain, Harry for their compassion. While we wish we had more time with Rick/Dad/Papaw, we take comfort that he is at peace now from the challenges of dementia and he is in the arms of his heavenly family.
Visitation for Rick will be Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12 p.m. at the MYERS-WOODYARD FUNERAL HOME, 587 Main St. in Groveport, OH. Interment will follow at Lithopolis Cemetery, Lithopolis, Ohio.
