On Saturday, June 14, 2025, beloved pastor Clyde Edmond Maynard was called to his eternal home by the Lord at 2:50 p.m. at the age of 80.
He served as an ordained minister in the Old Zion Association for several decades and pastor of the Cross Road United Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio for many years. On any given Sunday, he would uplift others with one of his favorite scriptures from John 14:1-3 KJV "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
Born December 17, 1944, to Wilburn Benjamin and Ida Fay (Dempsey) Maynard in Williamson, West Virginia. Ed retired from the Timken Company in Columbus, Ohio, after 42 years.
Ed's journey on this earth was faced with many challenges, yet marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. Those who knew Pastor Ed will remember him for his infectious smile and overwhelming laughter, his deep-rooted faith in Jesus, and his unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone he encountered. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path, especially the children.
Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rosemary (Brown) Maynard, his daughters Michelle (John) Koenig, Saundra (Rick) Duncan, and son Christopher (Stephanie) Maynard. Ed was blessed with 8 grandchildren: Katie, J.J., Kayla, Ryan, Breanna, Austin, Noah, Christian, and 9 great grandchildren: Emmit, Everson, Enessa, Mary, Charles, Alice, October, Mason, and Bailey; sister Donna (Ira) Muncy, brother-in-law Bill (Bonnie) Brewer, also a host of nieces, nephews, church family, ministers, trustees, deacons, and "Sunday Lunch Bunch" Monte and Thelma Derefield and Benny and Ellen Smith. He is preceded in death by parents, W.B. and Ida Maynard, sisters Betty (Radnor) Shepard, MaryAnn (Clarence) Mills, Deeana Brewer, brothers Hugh Maynard and Clint (Gladys) Maynard, nephew Keith Mills, and great granddaughter Ava.
Although he is no longer present, his memory is cherished and forever kept alive by his legacy. Pastor Ed is gone but never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life service, to honor the life of Clyde Edmond Maynard, will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at O.R. Woodyard, 1346 South High Street, Columbus, Ohio, from 2:00pm - 6:00pm., with cremation to follow.
