David "Rob" Light Obituary

Our hearts are sad, but we know that heaven has another angel – on July 26th, 2025, David "Rob" Light passed of natural causes.

Born in El Paso Texas on March 16th, 1941 to Col Everett Light and Peggy Light, growing up as a military kid, with a strong love of family and country. He loved to share stories of his adventures at West Point, Carlisle Barracks, Colorado Springs, Japan, and more. No one was a stranger – he always had a smile and a "Hello" for everyone he met.

Rob was always the first to help anyone that needed a hand up, brighten a moment with his sense of humor, smile, and laughter – the kindest, most generous man we were so lucky to have in our lives.

He loved science, especially physics and astronomy. During his senior high school year at Carlisle, he won the state science fair by designing and building equipment and experiments that could detect and prove that the sun was a source of cosmic radiation, resulting in numerous college scholarship offers. He loved his Triumph TR-4, and shared racing stories, he was especially proud of beating the Triumph dealer's son on a PA race track.

He met and married his high school love, Patricia Wiebusch, on September 5th, 1964 at the chapel on Carlisle Barracks. They were parents of four children - Debbie (Shannon), Pam, Glenn (Becky) and Melinda (John), and eight grandchildren John, Patrick, Evan, Sam, Tim, Morgan, Jack, and Adam. He was so very proud of all his children and grandchildren!

They were together for 56 years, until Patty's passing in May 2020.

He was a big kid at heart and enjoyed his toys – his yellow sail boat, motorcycle, canoe, jet ski and various RC planes over the years. He never outgrew his affection for toys, of all kinds, always heading straight for the toy section at every store he visited. He shared that love with his grandchildren, and with others, he generously donated to Toys for Tots, and Fire fighters for Kids every Christmas.

He worked for Bells Labs, AT&T, then Lucent Technologies retiring in 1996 after 32 years. Designated a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at AT&T Bell Technologies in 1990.

Rob is preceded in death by his parents, Col Light and Peggy Light, his wife Patty, and daughter Pam.

Celebration of Life on August 21st at Wesley Ridge Kimes Chapel from 11am-1pm 2225 Taylor Park Dr Reynoldsburg OH 43068. His internment will be at Glen Rest Memorial in Reynoldsburg.
