Elizabeth
Johnson
Sep 14, 1941 — Mar 21, 2024
Elizabeth "Liz" (Chapman) Johnson was born on September 14, 1941, in Glen Alum, West Virginia, and passed away on March 21, 2024, in the home of her son while surrounded by her loving family. She was 82. Liz was predeceased by her parents, Shayde and Golda Chapman and a brother, Mitchel Chapman. She was a beloved mother, devoted Christian, and the matriarch of her family.
Liz graduated from Chattaroy High School, Chattaroy, West Virginia, with the Class of 1959 and later attended Pikeville College in Pikeville, Kentucky, where she studied Education. She began her career working alongside her mother at Williamson Memorial Hospital before marrying Argil Horn and relocating to Columbus, Ohio, to raise their three children. Liz dedicated thirty years of her life to a major department store, supporting her family and finding joy in her children.
Her youngest son introduced her to her soulmate, John. Soon after in June, 1995, Elizabeth married John I. Johnson at Southeast Baptist Church in Columbus. Together they filled their days by enjoying her children and grandchildren, with whom they formed especially close bonds.
Her Christian faith was a cornerstone of her life, influenced by her parents and her early baptism at the Church of Christ at Slater's Branch, Kentucky. Liz was a member of Southeast Baptist Church for many years, living a Christian life and sharing her love for Jesus with "all the little children."
In her free time, Liz enjoyed camping, bowling and spending summer days with her children by her swimming pool. She treasured visits to her West Virginia family, ensuring her children and grandchildren maintained close ties with their relatives.
Liz will be deeply missed by her extensive and loving family: her children, Randy Lee (Cathy) Horn, Vanessa Joy Riley, Mitchel Allen (Tami) Horn; her grandchildren, Tasha (Kerry) Dodson, Garrett Horn, Randy Lee (Cheavaen) Riley, Jr., Brandi (Ben) MacDonald, Golda (Greg) Lindsey; her great grandchildren, Mitchel (Madison) Dodson, Cheyenne Dodson, Zachary Johnston, Zariah Johnston, Zayden Johnston, Kennedy Francis, Brittany Francis, Jordyn, Saige, Raelannii, Michael MacDonald, Morgan MacDonald, Brayden Horn, Jayden Horn and Suzy Turley; great-great grandson, Brysonn Dodson; her sisters, Polly Jane Allen, Joy (Bill) Blackburn, Shadye Dotson, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and brother, Elizabeth was predeceased by her devoted husband, John Johnson, her grandson, TeeJay Allen Horn, Zach Johnston and her great grandchild, Salem.
