Evangelia Galanis Zaharias, age 96, passed away on March 31, 2014. Born June 14, 1917 in Nafpaktos, Greece. Married James Zaharias in 1938, came to America in 1940. They made their home in Wilmington, OH where her husband, along with their brother-in-law Bill Brooks owned and operated The White House Restaurant. They were members of The Greek Orthodox Church in Springfield, OH. The entire Springfield Greek community was like family. Later they moved to Columbus where they made their home with their daughter Bess and son-in-law Deno Duros. Preceded in death by her husband James Zaharias, parents Demitri and Vasiliki Galanis, siblings Tasea, Antonia, Markos, Spiro and Zagoula. Evangeline spent the last 13 years of her life at Arlington Court, where everyone knew her as Yia Yia. There are so many people to thank at Arlington Court. They all gave so much loving care to Yia Yia and we can't thank them enough. Also, we wish to recognize Hospice for being there for Yia Yia and the family. Evelyn leaves behind her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Bess and Deno Duros; grandchildren, John (Diana) Duros, Shelley (Adam) Tzagournis; great grandchildren, Stephanie and Dean Duros, Elizabeth, Kaki, Mary Bess, Charley, Deno and Isabelle Tzagournis; her niece, Diane Gormas and nephew, Jim (Bessie Brooks) were a big part of her life.
