GEORGAS George Sotiris Georgas, age 78, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 9, 2014 with family by his side at the Kobacker House after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in New York, New York to the late Sotiris and Evangelia (Kroumadia) Georgas, he grew up in Yorkville, Ohio and was a 1954 graduate of Yorkville High School. He went on to graduate from The Ohio State University and retired from the Columbus City Schools where he was an educator and administrator for 36+ years. George was a beloved father, Papou and companion who enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, traveling and sharing his heritage with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, wife Lindasue Georgas preceded him in death. George will be deeply missed by his loving companion Jo-Ann Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Gregory Gottemoeller; sons, Sotiris (Sam) and Stephen Georgas; grandchildren, George and Sophia Gottemoeller and George Georgas; brothers, Steve (Pauline) Georgas of Denver, Colorado and Nick (Bertha) Georgas of Houston, Texas; nephew, Mark (Meggan) Georgas of Spring, Texas; niece, Krista (Scott) Patlovich of Cibolo, Texas; extended family, Cheryl Georgas of Ashville, Ohio, Jimmy and Joanne Smith of Hebron, Ohio, Jennifer, Jerry, Miranda and Raymond Caudle of Granville, Ohio, Jodie and Bill Washek of Newark, Ohio, Courtney Kreager of Columbus, Ohio, Shawn, Sue and Ace Patterson of Kirkersville, Ohio, Dorothy Lowery and children Nathan, Lucas and Justin, Maritta Komula, and many extended family members throughout Greece. Family will receive friends from 5 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at O.R. Woodyard Co. Chapel, 2990 Bethel Rd, where a Trisagion Prayer Service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 555 N. High St. Father Demetrios Gardikes officiating. Interment Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in George's memory be made to The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral - Philoptochos Society, 555 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43215.
