Helen C. Varveris passed away on Wednesday, March 6th, 2019, on her 92nd birthday. She was born in Youngstown, OH to the late Anthony and Maria (Baffas) Cascavalos, both of whom were from Smyrni, Asia Minor. After earning an Associate degree in Business from Youngstown State University (YSU) she married her beloved Homer B. Varveris. They remained married for 52 years until his death in 2007. Helen ran her own independent insurance agency and later worked as an Executive Administrative Assistant at YSU. Helen was known for her excellent baking and cooking, sharing her talents to support not only friends and family functions, but also, St. John Greek Orthodox Church in Youngstown and the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Columbus. She was very devoted to her faith. Helen is survived by her son, Dr. Nicholas (Annette) Varveris of Columbus; her daughter, Maria (James) Heller of Northville, MI; her four grandchildren Anthony Varveris, Marika Varveris, Zachary Heller and Eleni Heller, Godchildren, Dr. Jeffrey Sophinos, Nicholas M. Varveris, Esq., Dr. Steven Davakis, niece Vasso (Owen) Unks and nephew, James (Marie) Varberakis, several other nieces, nephews and many friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Fanny Sophinos and her brother, Manuel Cascavalos. Family will receive friends at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 10:00 AM, Friday, March 15th, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Union Cemetery.
