James A. DeVault, better known as Jim or "Jim D," was born on April 17th, 1950 in Columbus, Ohio. He left this world unexpectedly and way too early on May 12th, 2026.

He is survived in his passing by his son, Joseph (Joe) DeVault and fiancé Jodi Naylor, his sister Kay DeVault and significant other, Robert J. Ball. He is preceded in death by his long-term life partner Kathy Barch, and his parents Kenneth (Ken) and Hazel (Caldwell) DeVault. He also leaves behind many friends in both Columbus, Ohio and Holiday, Florida.

After Jim graduating Marion-Franklin high school he got a job at American Aggregates know better known as Shelly and Sands Quarry off SR104. He retired from there after 48 years of service. His last job there was running a yard loader to which he kept detailed records of every truck he loaded. Those small books were kept in his lunch box (and are still there to this day.) He met many friends there and kept in contact with most of those friends throughout the years.

His first pride and joy is his son, Joe. He worked at that quarry and put in plenty of overtime to make sure Joe could go racing motorcycles each weekend. He enjoyed being a coach and had cheers of encouragement to Joe and many of Joe's friends. Each weekend he made sure the guys had fun and did the best to their ability. He spent a lot of his time with a video camera in his hand documenting those races.

Later in life his favorite hobby was working on his hot rods. He has had many over the years but the two that meant the most is his 1931 Ford and the 1937 Plymouth Coupe. His favorite by far was his 1931 flathead Ford Roadster. He found it as a "barn find" from Doc Stewart with all original metal, and he took great time and care restoring it. Jim won the 'best home-built hotrod' (twice) at the Good Guys Car show in Columbus, Ohio. He was a regular at the car shows at the Der Dutchman every Thursday in Plain City.
