DUTY James Sheldon Duty, Sr., Bronze Star recipient, age 83, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014. "Sheldon" was known far and wide as a superstar with a fiddle, playing everywhere from Japan to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. He was a long time member and treasurer of the Lockbourne Road Church of Christ, and he served as a Sergeant and medic in the United States Army during the Korean War where he was honored with the Bronze Star. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, and a devoted husband and sweetheart to Mary Ann for 62 years. Born June 28, 1931, in Ragland, West Virginia, he was a son of the late John C. Duty and Magnolia "Nola" Curry. Also preceding him in death were his children, Barbara (Randy) Daniels and Carlos Duty; brothers Carlos, Joe, Rodney, John, Loren, and Arthur Duty; sisters Ella Styer, Jean McComas, Vera Lea (Russell) Vance and infant sisters Emma Lou and lma Jane Duty. Along with his wife Mary Ann, he leaves five children: Kay (Andy) Andersen, James Sheldon Jr. (Wilma), David and Mary Jane Duty, and Lisa Duty-Corne (Jason); grandchildren, Andy (Jenny), Fred (Dawn), and Charlie (Kendra) Andersen; James Sheldon (Denise) Duty, Ill, Melissa (Brian) Johnson, Jamie (Jamison) Jones; Randy Jr. and Stevie (Robbyn) Daniels; many great-grandchildren and newest edition, great-great granddaughter, Sadie. He loved and lived for his family, friends, God, and bluegrass music. He was loved deeply by all who knew him. Friends may call at the O. R. WOOYDARD CO. CHAPEL 1346 S. High Street Tuesday, October 28, 2014 from 4-8 pm. The funeral service will be Wednesday 11 am at the funeral home with Brother Shawn Hanson officiating. Interment will follow in Obetz Cemetery.
