It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jason Sean Smith "Smitty," age 48, who passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Grant Medical Center. Jason was born on November 3, 1976, and was the only child of Benny and Ellen Smith of Pickerington, OH.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Denver and Lona Smith, and his maternal grandparents, Clayton and Lucille Perry.

Jason attended Bishop Hartley High School during his freshman through junior years and graduated from Pickerington High School in 1996 after attending his senior year there.

He was a lover of Jesus and believed in the power of prayer. He attended Cross Road United Baptist Church on Lockbourne Rd in Columbus, OH.

A true lover of all sports, Jason was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball team and the Penn State Nittany Lions football team. He also enjoyed following the Cincinnati Reds baseball team and WWE wrestling.

Jason shared a special bond with his dad, Benny, who was his best friend. They cherished their time together, whether it was watching old westerns or choosing the high school game of the week.

Known for his calm demeanor and contagious laugh, Jason had a quick wit that could light up any room. He adored dogs, especially Boxers. His beloved companions, Roderick and Moe Joe, will be laid to rest with him.

Jason spent many summers growing up spending time with his family "down home" in Harts Creek, West Virginia, and it was one of his most fond memories. As he got older, he loved to escape down home and enjoy the peace and quiet. Jason enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was loved by all who knew him. He was an amazing nephew, cousin, and friend.

Visitation for Jason will be held Tuesday, June 10 at O.R. Woodyard Co. Funeral Home, 1346 S. High Street, Columbus, OH from 4-7pm with service to follow, officiated by Rev. Ed Maynard. Wednesday morning, Jason will be transported to Smith Cemetery, 5891 Harts Creek Rd, Harts, WV, 25524, with a 2pm graveside service, officiated by Rev. Eddie Hatfield and Rev. Ed Maynard.
