John Joseph Pershing, 92, of Columbus, OH passed away on November 19, 2022. John was born on August 19, 1930, to the late Ray and Ethel Pershing in Dennison, OH. He is survived by his loving and supportive wife Darleen of 70 years and four children: Sharon (George) Pallas, Marsha (Lloyd) Ross, Jack (Sandy) Pershing and Doug (Michele) Pershing. He was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene Gordon, and William Pershing. John graduated from Dennison High School and attended Ohio State University. He proudly served in the US Army Reserves for 15 years. John was a relative and named after the famous US Army General, John Joseph Pershing, and proudly kept written letters he received from the General. After marrying Darleen (Blake), they moved to Columbus, OH and started a family. John was a longtime member of University Masonic Lodge #631. He owned and operated Pershing Insurance, an agency for Nationwide Insurance for 30 years. Following that, he worked for Unfinished Wood Furniture stores before retirement. John and Darleen have been members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lincoln Village North for 65 years. John was a loving husband, wonderful Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa. Friends and family will gather at Westminster Presbyterian Church on December 10, 2022 from 10:00 am until the time of memorial service at 12 noon. Cemetery Details Cremation-No cemetery at this time.
