Karen Sue
Kean
Jul 17, 1957 — May 19, 2026
Karen Sue Kean, 68, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on May 19, 2026. She was born on July 17, 1957, in Columbus, Ohio, and lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her work, and the many simple joys that made her smile.
Karen was a proud graduate of Gahanna Lincoln High School. After completing her education, she went on to serve her community as a school bus driver for Licking Heights for 15 years, a role she carried out with care, responsibility, and dedication. She took pride in helping children travel safely each day, and her steady presence was appreciated by students, families, and coworkers alike. Her work reflected the dependable and thoughtful nature that those who knew her came to admire.
Karen was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt whose greatest joy came from time spent with her family. She is survived by her daughter, Karla Sowers and her husband, Shane; her granddaughter, Bailey Yeager and her husband, Luke; her grandsons, Kamron Sowers and Kaden; and her brothers, Joseph Kean and his wife, Kay, Kenneth Kean and his wife, Connie, Charles Kean and his wife, Cindy, David Kean and his wife, Debbie, and Jim Kean and his wife, Tammy, as well as her brother-in-law, Shawn Dennis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph E. and Norma Kean; her brother, Steven Kean; and her sister, Tina Dennis.
Karen's family was the center of her world, and she treasured every opportunity to be involved in the lives of her grandchildren. She loved attending their activities and celebrating their accomplishments, and she took great pride in watching them grow. Her presence at their events was a source of encouragement and joy, and her support will be remembered as one of the many ways she showed her love. She was especially happy when she could spend time with her grandchildren, listen to their stories, and share in their milestones.
She enjoyed driving, shopping, and going out to eat, but more than anything, she appreciated the time spent with the people she loved. Karen also had a deep enthusiasm for Ohio State football, and she followed the Buckeyes with loyal excitement. Whether she was enjoying a game, heading out for a meal, or simply spending a day with family, she brought a spirited energy that made those around her feel at ease. Her sense of humor, intelligence, and spirited personality left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Karen was a spiritual woman whose faith and outlook helped guide her through life. She carried herself with warmth and authenticity, and she had a gift for making others feel welcome. Her laughter was memorable, her mind was sharp, and her presence was comforting. Those closest to her will remember her as someone who could brighten a room with her funny nature, thoughtful conversation, and unmistakable spirit.
Her life was one of love, family, and steady devotion. She will be deeply missed by all who had the blessing of knowing her, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, brothers, extended family, and friends.
