Karry Ellis died peacefully in his home Tuesday morning July 21, 2020 surrounded by his children, family and friends. Karry is preceded in death by his wife and love of his life, Martha (Hassfurther) Ellis, his parents, Larry & Freda (Barker) Ellis, and in-laws, Ed & Dolores Hassfurther. He is survived by his six children, Kara Ellis, Kasi Orcutt (Jason), Dustin Ellis, Stephanie Gantner (Tommy), Connor Ellis and Abby Ellis; his grandchildren, Dylan & Emma Loftis and Olivia, Eve & Jacob Orcutt; his siblings, Marland (Ruth) Ellis, Lara (Craig) Wiley, Durell Ellis; aunt, Joan Noojin; lifelong "brothers" Rupert Noojin and Rick Dawson; many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved, and the Columbus Division of Fire family. Karry served his country in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Dover, DE as a hydraulic repairman working on C5s. He was also a volunteer fire fighter for the city of Dover. He joined the Columbus Fire Department in 1980 and spent the next 35 years humbly serving his community, retiring in 2015 as an Assistant Chief. He was a beloved member of St. Cecilia parish and choir. Karry loved family vacations in Hilton Head Island, SC, watching trains, and traveling throughout Europe with a particular fondness for London where he made many friends during his visits. Karry gave back to his community by quietly starting The Dad Project, a family initiative to feed and clothe the city's homeless. Friends may call from 2 to 8 PM on Friday, July 24, 2020 at the O. R. Woodyard South Chapel, 1346 S. High St. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 25 at 10 AM at St. Cecilia Parish, 434 Norton Rd, Columbus, OH 43228. Interment at St. Joseph Cemetery to follow.
