It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Keith Nelson, who departed this world peacefully at home on June 6, 2026, in the tender care of his beloved family and hospice. Born on March 5, 1935, in Dexter, Ohio, he dedicated his life to service, family, and faith.

Keith was the cherished son of Earl and Thelma Nelson and was predeceased by his brothers Harry, Earl Jr., Wendell, Clifford, Raymond, as well as his sisters Phyllis (Johrent), Eloise (Diehl), Shirley Bobo and Janet (Paskievitch). He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Fauna, whose love story with Keith began with the serendipitous pairing of dance partners, both holding the number 11. Their union was one of profound love and partnership, a testament to the perfect pairing orchestrated by God's providence.

Keith's legacy continues through his children, Terri (Ken) Kowis, of Pataskala, Dave (Amy) Nelson, of Pataskala, and Lisa (Tim) Durham, of Granville, as well as his 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life. His sister-in-law, Joan Nelson, and extended family of nieces, nephews, and many others held a special place in his heart.

Keith, a proud graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in physical education, began his career as a teacher and coached football and basketball. He later embarked on a distinguished 26-year career in the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard, including serving a tour in Korea. He retired as a Colonel in 1985 from the 121st Tactical Fighter Wing unit at Rickenbacker Air Force Base. His dedication to service extended beyond his military career, as he also retired from Roche Pharmaceutical Laboratories after 25 years, where he earned multiple President Achievement Awards.

For over 50 years, Keith was an active and cherished member of Eastland Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and contributed to numerous committees. His unwavering faith and commitment to his community were hallmarks of his life.

Keith found his greatest happiness in the company of his family, cherishing each moment spent with them. Known for his generosity, kindness, and strong Christian values, he was often described as "the best man I know," leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.

A service to celebrate Keith's extraordinary life will be held on June 11, 2026, at 11:00 am at Pfeifer-Woodyard Funeral Home, 7915 E. Main Street, Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068. Visitation hours will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 pm and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial follows immediately in Glen Rest Memorial Estates, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Donations are welcome to Ohio's Hospice, an organization that provided compassionate care in Keith's final days. Donations can be made online at Ohio's Hospice. Keith Nelson will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His life was a testament to the power of love, service, and faith, and his legacy will continue to inspire us all.
