Obituary

Kent Lavan Rice peacefully departed this life on Monday, July 27, 2026.

Born on June 22, 1961, in Columbus, Ohio, Kent was the cherished son

of the late Sallie Rice and Leo Rice. From an early age, he displayed a

quiet determination, intellectual curiosity, and a warm spirit that would

remain with him throughout his life.

Kent graduated from Beechcroft Senior

High School before continuing his education at Grambling University,

where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. His passion

for engineering led him to a distinguished career with the Washington

Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), where he faithfully served

as a Logistics Engineer for 17 years. Kent took great pride in his work and

deeply valued the friendships and relationships he built throughout his career.

His WMATA family held a special place in his heart, and he will be remembered

for his professionalism, dedication, and willingness to help others.

Outside of work, Kent had a genuine love for automobiles and was

a true car enthusiast. Whether admiring classic vehicles, learning about

the latest automotive innovations, or simply enjoying a drive, cars brought him

great joy. Kent had a passion for technology and was an avid computer

enthusiast. In his spare time, he designed and built custom computers,

transforming his hobby into a rewarding side business. He also had a passion

for travel and embraced opportunities to explore new places, experience

different cultures, and create lasting memories with family and friends.

Those who knew Kent will remember his kind heart, gentle spirit, and

unwavering loyalty to the people he loved. His presence brought comfort,

laughter, and wisdom to those around him, and his legacy will continue to

live on through the countless lives he touched.

Kent leaves to cherish his memory, his father, Leo Rice; brothers Alvin (Angelia) Rice,

Timothy (Sandra) Rice; nephews, Halston Rice, Timothy Rice Jr.; nieces,

Myisha (Erin) Nelson and Joie Rice; a host of other family members,

devoted friends, cherished colleagues, and all who were blessed to know him.

Though he has departed from this

earthly life, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

"To everything there is a season

and a time to every purpose under heaven."
