Larry K. Fairchild, a beloved husband, father, and community leader, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on August 13, 1935, in Lancaster, Ohio, Larry lived a life marked by dedication, leadership, and service to others.

Larry's early years in Lancaster were filled with achievements both in the classroom and on the athletic field. A 1953 graduate of Lancaster High School, he was a standout athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. His talent on the basketball court was especially remarkable, earning him All-Ohio honors and a place on the First Team All Central Ohio League. With 39 rebounds in a single game and a league-leading scoring record, Larry's prowess was unmatched. He was equally accomplished off the field, serving as president of both the Student Council and the National Honor Society.

After high school, Larry attended Denison University, where he continued his athletic career, earning varsity letters in several sports. He later transferred to The Ohio State University and ultimately graduated from Ohio University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Throughout his academic journey, he was an active and proud member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

Larry served his country with honor as a member of the U.S. Air Force during the early 1960s, notably during the Berlin Wall Air crisis. Following his military service, he began his professional career as a salesman for Anchor Hocking Glass before transitioning to a successful 31-year career as an executive with Lazarus Department Stores in Columbus, Ohio. He retired in 1997, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and integrity.

Deeply committed to his community, Larry served as the president of the Lancaster High School Alumni Association for two decades and was a charter member of the Lancaster Public Education Foundation. His faith was central to his life, and he was an active member of both the Northwest United Methodist Church and the Meadow Park Church of God, where he held various leadership roles.

Larry was also dedicated to youth development, serving as a Scoutmaster for six years and as an usher for Ohio State University football games for 16 years. His life was a testament to the values of service, leadership, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, B. Wavileen and John G. Fairchild, and his brothers Jack, Douglas, and Craig. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Connie; his children, Matthew (Audrey) and Dianna; his cherished grandchildren, Noah, Jacob, Scarlett, Anna, and Parker; and his brother Bill, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families.

A memorial tribute to celebrate Larry's life will be held on September 12, 2024,visitation is from 10:00AM until time of service at 12:00PM at the O.R. WOODYARD Funeral and Cremation Services, 2990 Bethel Road, Columbus, Ohio 43220. His family, friends, and all who were touched by his kindness and leadership are invited to join in honoring his remarkable life.
