Obituary

Leora Mae Conkle, a woman whose warmth and bright spirit touched all who knew her, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on December 18, 1933, Leora lived a life filled with purpose, love, and a generous dose of adventure.

A proud graduate of Pickerington High School in 1951, Leora was the Valedictorian of her class. Her sharp intellect and dedication were evident throughout her life, as she earned her bachelor's degree in accounting from Franklin University while working full-time at Nationwide Insurance. She further achieved her CPA and dedicated over 40 years of her career to Nationwide.

Leora married her beloved husband, Kenneth Roy "Dick" Conkle, on May 21, 1955. Leora was a devoted resident of Etna, Ohio, for 64 years, where she was an active member of the Etna United Methodist Church. Leora and Dick loved to travel, exploring many states in their RV and sharing adventures as members of the Holiday Rambler Club. Their winters were often spent basking in the warmth of Arizona and Florida. Leora was a familiar and welcome presence at her son Mark's business, Conkle's Truck Repair, in Etna. She found joy in camping, the crackle of campfires, creating arts and crafts, cooking and baking for her loved ones, and most importantly, spending time with her family. Leora was a breast cancer survivor, a testament to her strength and resilience. Her ever-present smile and ability to connect with anyone she met made her a truly special individual.

Leora is survived by her sons, Mark (Christine) Conkle and Scott (Vikki) Conkle; her grandchildren, Nicholas (Sara Hefel) Conkle, Danielle (Matt) Tatro, Ashley (Dominic) Jewell, Krista (Zephaniah) Harvey; her step-grandchildren, Lauren, Erin, and Adam Karap; and her great-grandchildren, Tanker, Dakota, and Elvira Cameron, and Cade and Elvis Jewell. She also leaves behind her sisters, Dolores Fischer and Mary Carpenter, and her brother, Frank Crawford. Leora was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Roy "Dick" Conkle, her parents, and her siblings, Bill, Don, Herm Crawford, and Juanita Harrington.

A visitation will be held on September 23, 2026, from 4:30-6:30 p.m., followed by a brief service at 6:30 p.m. at Pfeifer-Woodyard Funeral Home, 7915 E Main St, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068, with Pastor Chip Koch officiating. Leora will be laid to rest privately at Glen Rest Memorial Estate, 8029 E Main St, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Capital City Hospice or the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research.
