Lewis K Smith went home to be with his Heavenly Father on April 9th at the age of 84 with family at his side. He was born on January 5th, 1942, in League City, Texas. He graduated from La Marque High School in 1960, then went off to attend the University of Texas at Austin for both his undergraduate and graduate studies, finishing with a PhD in Chemistry in 1971.
During Lewis's undergraduate studies, he met Peggy, with whom he later married on August 28th, 1965. They settled in Texas, where they raised their son, Kenneth, until 1977, when they moved to Ada, Ohio.
Lewis's career spanned 35 years as a Biochemistry Professor in the School of Pharmacy. He began his teaching career at the University of Houston, then transitioned to Ohio Northern University for the rest of his career. Lewis and Peggy lived in Ada, Ohio, and were actively involved in their local church, Riley Creek Baptist Church, until he retired in 2006.
He and Peggy moved to Groveport, Ohio, in 2009. In retirement, he devoted much of his time to his faith. He enjoyed studying the Bible, especially Bible prophecy. His desire was to be a faithful servant to his Lord. He served in many capacities as the Lord opened the door. Lewis liked building things and was also a passionate fan of the Texas Longhorns and the Houston Astros.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Clara Powell Smith, and brother Donald Smith. He is survived by his loving wife Peggy of 60 years, his son Kenneth Smith (Tammy), brother Larry Smith (Libby), and grandchildren, Kyle (Kaitlyn), Caleb, Emily (Fiancé Jake), and niece and nephews.
Calling hours will be 11:00 am - 12:00 pm on April 13th, with a service to follow at Madison Christian Church, 3565 Bixby Rd. Groveport, OH 43125. A light lunch will follow in the Fellowship hall. Donations can be made to LifeWise Academy - Groveport, Madison Christian Church, or Ohio Northern University in lieu of sending flowers. Final arrangements entrusted to the MYERS-WOODYARD FUNERAL HOME, Groveport, OH.
