Obituary

Lula Leakas, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2011. Lula was born October 2, 1915 in Columbus, Ohio and had been a lifelong resident of Upper Arlington. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Peter T. Leakas, parents Gus and Fanny Zaglanis, and infant son, Dean. Lula graduated from Central High School where she played the violin in the orchestra. In 1940, Peter and Lula founded Leakas Quality Furs in Columbus where Lula worked every day until she retired in 1975. Lula was a dedicated lifelong member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral where she sang in the choir for over 55 years, and served as a member of the Philoptochos Society, Daughters of Penelope, and the 50 Plus Club. Lula was preceded in death by her brothers, Tom, George, and Peter. She is survived by her two sons, Ted (Veta) of Upper Arlington and Chris (Barb) of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Peter, Nicole (Tate) Borcoman, Valerie (Jeff) Bisdorf, and Tim; great grandchildren, Kennedy, Kampbell, Kooper Borcoman and Tia Bisdorf; sister-in-law Helen Zaglanis, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lula will be missed by all who knew her. Her family wishes to thank all of the doctors and staff at the Ohio State University Hospital and the wonderful staff at Arlington Court Nursing Home. Friends and family may visit Friday, February 4, from 4-8 p.m. at O. R. Woodyard Funeral Home, 2990 Bethel Road (Trisagion Service held at 7:30 pm). Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 5, at 10 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral 555 N. High Street. Services will be conducted by Reverend Economos Michael Kontos, Jr and Father Panteleimon Maillis. In lieu of flowers, family wishes donations be made to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral Foundation at 555 N. High Street, Columbus Ohio 43215.
