Mark Andrew Sommer, age 81, of Groveport, OH, born January 8, 1943 in Wheelersburg, OH, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 after a brief illness. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Frederick Sommer Sr. and Anna Marie (Kopp) Sommer; brothers, Fred, David, John and Gerald Sommer. Mark was a loving husband and devoted family man who is survived by his wife of 54 years, Celina Ericka (Melo) Sommer; sons, Mark Andrew Sommer Jr. and Louis Frederick (Vera) Sommer III; grandson, John Robert Sommer; sister, Mary Ann (Larry) Davis; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Mark graduated from Wheelersburg High School with varsity letters in football and baseball. Mark was a graduate of DeVry Technical Institute of Chicago, IL in 1962, and attended Franklin University in Columbus, OH while he was employed at Industrial Nucleonics. During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Army in Germany with a surface-to-air missle battery. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He was a longtime employee of Schneider National, Inc. Mark was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Groveport, OH. Visitation will be Friday, February 9, 2024 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the MYERS-WOODYARD FUNERAL HOME, 587 Main St. in Groveport, OH. The Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 5684 Groveport Rd. in Groveport, OH. Father Brian O'Connor presiding. Mark will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne, OH.
