LASSEL Michael Lassel, age 88, of Blacklick Ohio passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Maria Lassel; brothers, John and George Lassel. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Maria Lassel; 4 sons, Michael and Rena Lassel, Carl and Laurie Lassel, John and Marcia Lassel and Steve and Dee Lassel. He has 6 grandchildren, Michele, Danelle, Simon and Ben Lassel, Krista and Eric Wagner, Zach and Sam Buchanan; 4 great grandchildren, Braxton, Bentley and Madyn Wagner and Cameron Buchanan. Michael was born on July 22, 1926 in Botsch Siebenburgen Romania. Michael immigrated to the U.S. with his wife and young son in 1951. They made the long trip by boat to make a better life for themselves and their family. He was a very hard working man and realized the American dream by starting his first business, Lassel & Karst Masonry in 1957 and then The Kassel Company in 1963, which was building and investing in real estate. He was passionate about bringing the family he left behind in Romania to America and did so in 1964. Michael attended Martin Luther Church where he served as president. He was a member of the Saxon Club where he held various positions. He enjoyed singing with the choir at both the church and Saxon Club. He loved fishing and boating on Lake Erie and spending time in Florida during the cold winter months. He loved most of all reading, taking pictures and family movies, the outdoors and enjoyed looking at his pond and the wildlife around his property. Michael was a very charitable man contributing to countless organizations. The family will receive friends at the O. R. WOODYARD CO. FUNERAL HOME 1346 South High Street in Columbus on Wednesday, January 14th from 2:30 to 4:30 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral will be held in the O. R. WOODYARD CO. CHAPEL on Thursday, January 15th at 11:00 am. Reverend Kai Nilsen officiating. Interment to follow at Green Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael's name to the Central Ohio Diabetes Association 614-884-4400 (Donation envelopes will be at the funeral home).
