Michael X. Vitellas, beloved husband of Angeline Vitellas, passed away peacefully on 09/23/2023, age 84. Born on 11/09/1938 to Elpitha and Xenofon Vitellas in Kalamoti, Chios, Greece, he lived a life filled with passion, dedication, and unwavering love. At 17 he sailed across the Atlantic to pursue his love for learning and education, and attended Brooklyn College and NYU, earning a degree in Chemical Engineering and post-graduate work at Duquesne University. Michael made significant contributions in R&D at Weirton Steel, where he developed several patents. He was devoted to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Steubenville, OH where he was president for several years, started their annual and much celebrated Greek Festival and was a Greek school teacher for 16 years sharing his rich cultural heritage and language with many students. He was passionate about preserving and passing on the traditions of Greece, and his influence on his students' lives was immeasurable. Michael's true source of happiness was his family. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Angeline, children Kenneth Vitellas (Lisa Vitellas), Maria Fragoulis (Xenofon Fragoulis), Yianni Vitellas (Miguel Perez) and Elpitha Vitellas (Orlie Benjamin), as well his loving grandchildren Carol, Christina and Alexandra Vitellas, Evangelia Fragoulis (Kevin O'Brien), Isidoros Fragoulis (Callie Fragoulis), Michael Fragoulis, and Mihali Vitellas. Visitation hours will be Tuesday, 9/26 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm with Trisagion service at 7:00pm at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church (555 N. High St., Columbus, OH) and the funeral will be held Wednesday, 9/27 at 12:00pm with visitation hours from 11:00am - 12:00pm at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church here or to The Kalamotousion Association, via check to P.O. Box 1307 Westerville, OH 43086. Donations to the Kalamotousion Association will be directed to the Kalamoti Elementary School in his hometown Kalamoti, Chios, Greece. This gesture will ensure that his spirit of generosity, love for Greece, and passion for education live on, just as he will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
