Obituary

Mildred "Millie" Peden Kohn, born in McArthur, Ohio on May 22, 1925, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024 at her residence in McArthur. Her parents were mother, Carrie Opal Saltz Harden; father, James Peden; and stepfather, Milford H. Harden. She also had a brother, Glen Leroy Peden. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Byron K. Kohn.

Millie graduated from McArthur High School, and Ohio University in Elementary Education in 1950. She also attended graduate school at The Ohio State University. Millie retired from Columbus Public Schools and organized the first kindergarten at Scioto Trail School in Franklin County. Millie was an active member of the Franklin Park Volunteers and Women's Sustaining Board; member and volunteer of the German Village Society; German Village Garden Club; former co-owner of Byron's Gallery in German Village and McArthur. Millie was a member of O.E.S. McArthur Chapter Serena 128 for over 50 years and a member of the Southern Hills Arts Counsel. After moving back to her family home in McArthur, OH, Millie truly enjoyed being a member of the McArthur Marvelous Matrons Red Hat Society and served as Queen Mum. Millie was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Bureau of Travel and Tourism, and Friends of the Herbert Wescott Library. She served as Grand Marshall of the 2017 Wild Turkey Festival and as Chamber of Commerce Person of the Year in McArthur. She was a member of the McArthur Presbyterian Church. Millie, with friends Elenor Benedict, Esther Crownover, and Ruth Will created the "Merry Widows." Their times together included traveling, dinner dates, going to the horse races, and shopping.

Millie is survived by Vicki and Michael Schlosser and Ben; Vesta Warthman and family; loving and caring cousins, Becky Reichert and Jack Lemler; and many longtime friends, Keith and Dorothy Gainey, and Sally Woodyard. Millie's extended family includes: Heidi, Trey, and Tatum; Pam Matko; Laura and Ross Harms and family; Karen and Bob Stilling and Arnette Howard.

Visitation in Columbus, OH will be Friday, April 26, 2024 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the O.R. WOODYARD CO. South Chapel, 1346 S. High St. Visitation will also be in McArthur, OH on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. at McArthur Presbyterian Church, 202 W. High St. A reception at the church will follow interment at Elk Cemetery in McArthur, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vinton County Senior Center, Vinton County Historic and Genealogy Society, or the McArthur Chamber of Commerce in Millie's honor.
