Phoupheth Phommachanh, aged 80 years and 5 months, passed away at 1:15 PM on Saturday, August 31st, 2024, at The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard Solove Research Institute in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by his loved ones. Phoupheth bravely battled renal cell carcinoma and was undergoing multiple cancer treatments. During his time in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), he experienced complications and later succumbed to his illness.
Phoupheth was born to Oukeo and Somphou Phommachanh on March 31st, 1944 in Attapeu, Laos. He is preceded in death by his parents Oukeo and Somphou Phommachanh, his sister, Phouvimala Ditthavong, his brothers, Phoukeomany and Phouketsana Phommachanh, and his canine companion, Meenoy.
After 80 years, Phoupheth lived many lives, from an up-and-coming high ranking Commander in the Royal Lao Army, to a hardworking truck driver in the United States. He was a family man and cherished spending time with his family.
His family fondly remembers Phoupheth gardening with his wife , tending to their tomatoes and rose bushes, and feeding his dogs and grand-dogs extra scraps during mealtime. He loved watching the news and talking politics with his older son, and also drinking coffee and eating blueberry bagels with strawberry cream cheese with his daughters. When summer came around, he enjoyed the "best barbecue in Bexley" made by his younger son. Phoupheth loved traveling to see family and spent countless hours on the phone talking to dear family and friends.
He leaves behind his beloved sister, Phouvanamaly Phommachanh, and brothers, Phouratthaninhom, Phouvilavong, Phousompasong and Phousouthihack Phommachanh. He is also survived by his lovely wife of 57 years, Khamphanh Phommachanh, his most cherished children Phousengvilaysack (wife One Seelapasay) Phommachanh, Phousengvilaysith (wife Ning) Phommachanh, Napaporn (husband Aaron) Jackson, Linda Phommachanh, and their family dog, Lucky. He also leaves many treasured cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and close friends. All will dearly remember Phoupheth Phommachanh.
