Ralph Randall Martin, 72, of Ashville, Ohio went home peacefully with the Lord at 12:25 p.m. on May 24, 2012, surrounded by his family at the Logan Elm Health Care facility in Circleville, OH. Despite his trials from Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma over the past 11 years, Ralph remained cheerful to the end showing the warmth and humor that characterized his life. His jokes and silly sayings often drew odd looks and laughter from all those who met him. He was born September 17, 1939 at Goose Creek in Eastern, Kentucky, to Miles Bordy and Evelyn (Gibson) Martin. He is preceded in death by his parents, paternal grandparents Dial (Elizabeth) Martin, maternal grandparents William (Katherine) Gibson, brother Eugene Martin, sister Emma Lou Pigman, first wife Patricia Ann Davis, son Randall Martin, and grandson Jonathan Martin. Ralph is survived by his wife of 32 years, Cheryl (Simmons) Martin; five children, Melinda "Mindy" Martin, at home, Anna (John) Rodriguez of Keller, TX, Marilyn Martin of Bellefontaine, OH, Kimberly (Dan) McMillan of Melbourne, FL, and Charles "Mick" (Jo) Simmons of South Bend, IN; four sisters, Mary Lou Slone of Oklahoma City, OK, Marlene Wegner of Jackson, OH, Geraldine Howard of Eastern, KY, and Regina "Carol" DeRossett of Science Hill, KY; four brothers, Neb Martin of Michigan City, IN, Garnis "Doc" (Phyllis) Martin of Bean Station, TN, William Martin of David, KY, and Kirk "Doug" (Melissa) Martin of Jackson, OH; eight grandchildren, Travis, Tamara, Chance, Samantha, Chaella, Connor, Zane and Nathan; special friends, Ella Mae Seagraves, Bernard Ferrell, Dan Fox, Chuck Ferguson and beloved cat, Tony; several nieces, nephews and other relatives, and many friends whom he loved very much. The family would like to thank the nurses, aides and staff of Logan Elm Health Care and Heartland Hospice, especially Aubrey, Marla, Lynn, Jeff, Brittany, Krystal, Stephanie, Dee and Marsha. He was a retired belt builder having worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Marysville, OH. He was a member of the American Legion Southway Post #144 in Columbus, OH, VFW Post #3320 of Marysville, OH, and the Southern Pines Lions Club. He was a Veteran of the United States Army after having served as a track mechanic during the Korean DMZ Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Ole Time Freewill Baptist Church. He loved being with his family and friends; an avid gardener, enjoyed hunting and fishing, watching football, basketball and golf; he enjoyed tinkering with all sorts of gadgets. Friends may call at the Ole Time Freewill Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 30th and Thursday, May 31st from 3-9 p.m. Services will be held Friday, June 1, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Bernard Ferrell and Pastor Dan Fox officiating.
