Richard D. "Rick" Downing, age 62, passed away suddenly after a courageous battle with oral cancer.  Rick was born March 13, 1962, in Bellefontaine, Ohio to Richard D. and Helen Marie (Anderson) Downing Sr. Graduate of Bellefontaine High School Class of 1980 where Rick was active in band.  Later he received his degree in Respiratory Therapy.  Member of Gates Fourth United Methodist Church.  Rick enjoyed rehabbing homes, woodworking, traveling, camping and being outdoors.  Preceded in death by parents, Richard and Helen Downing; brother, K.C. Downing; grandparents, aunts, uncles and loved ones.  Survived by spouse of 27 years, Bobby J. Downing; brother, Tim (Kathy) Downing; sister-in-law, Joy Downing; mother-in-law, Sue Wissinger; brother-in-law, James Hoffman; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and family.  The family will receive friends at Gates Fourth United Methodist Church, 119 E. Gates St., Columbus, Ohio 43206, on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from 5 pm until time of funeral service at 7 pm.  Pastor Dave Preece officiating.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family.  Final arrangements with the O.R. WOODYARD CO. South Chapel.
