Robert Van Carney Jr., age 56, unexpectedly passed away on July 12, 2025. Born February 17, 1969, in Columbus, Ohio, he was a Licking Heights High School graduate, Class of 1987. Rob played football at Muskingum College in 1987 and went on to graduate from Bowling Green State University in 1993.
Rob was a devout family man who loved his family above all else. A man of deep faith, he lived each day guided by the values of Christ and never wavered in his belief. Rob was an avid golfer and a skilled pool player. He loved his country, never shied away from a spirited debate, and always stood firm in his convictions. He also loved trying new restaurants, enjoying a good meal, and collecting unique bottles of whiskey. He passed away doing what he loved most playing golf with one of his best friends and will forever be remembered as a winner. Rob touched everyone he met with his kindness, integrity, and strength. He was truly special.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Pauline Evans and Vansel and Lavern Carney, and by his aunts, Mary Ann Carney and Ann Carney.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Amy Cavender Carney; sons, Thomas and Luke; parents, Robert V. and Regina Carney; brother, Mark (Jennifer) Carney and their children, Kayla, Moira, Sean, and Patrick; sister, Angela Vignola, mother of Dario Esposito and Minka Vignola; uncles, Donald (Karen) Taylor, Jimmy Carney, and Michael (Cyndi) Evans; aunt, Corina (Jim) Brown; and numerous other relatives, friends, neighbors, and coworkers.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Pfeifer Woodyard Funeral Home, 7915 East Main Street, Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 18, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with Fr. Patrick officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
