Roberta
Hammond
Jan 17, 1943 — Oct 4, 2026
Reynoldsburg, Ohio
Roberta Hammond, age 83, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, died on October 4, 2026. Roberta was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on January 17, 1943. She was one of six siblings.
Roberta graduated from Deer Park High School in Cincinnati, and went to Columbus to attend The Ohio State University. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. At Ohio State, she met the love of her life, Richard H. (“Dick”)Hammond, on a blind date at a Kingston Trio concert. They married in 1964 in Cincinnati. After her marriage, Roberta dropped out of school and worked at Ohio Bell, supporting the family while Dick attended law school at Ohio State.
Roberta and Richard welcomed their first child in 1967. They went on to have three more. In the spring of 1969, they moved to Bellbrook, Ohio, near Dayton. In 1971, Roberta moved with her husband and children to Beavercreek, Ohio, where Dick grew up.
During those years, Roberta was a homemaker and taught preschool. As the children grew older, she again began working outside the home, first as an executive director of the Greene County branch of the American Cancer Society. Later, she was the executive director of the Dayton Humane Society. Roberta also finished her undergraduate degree at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, in a unique program for returning adult students that met on Saturdays.
Roberta went on to earn her master’s degree in social work at the University of Dayton. She then worked as a mental health counselor for nearly 25 years. She was very proud of her work as a counselor because of the many people she helped through difficult times.
After Dick died in 2011, Roberta continued to practice as a counselor. In 2013, she moved to Reynoldsburg, Ohio. She enjoyed her new neighbors and made many dear friends in her neighborhood. She was a big Ohio State football fan, and enjoyed watching games while wearing her Ohio State gear. She also was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Reynoldsburg.
Roberta is survived by her four children: R. Scott (Kendra) of Camarillo, California; Lisa Hammond Johnson (David) of Bay Village, Ohio; Kari Hammond (Bob Tiell) of Russell Springs, Kentucky; and Katherine Potts of Gahanna, Ohio. Roberta also is survived by eight granchildren: Austin Hammond, Jacob Hammond, Sara Hammond, Amelia Johnson, Annalise Johnson, Alex Potts, Adalyn Potts, and Avery Potts, as well as many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her brother, David Stickler, and sister Jane Sommers. Roberta was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband Dick, her brothers Lawrence Stickler and Alan Stickler, and her sister, Harriet Hogg.
A celebration of life service will be held on November 6, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1200 S. Waggoner Road in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. A private internment will take place later.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Capital City Hospice, 2800 Corporate Exchange Drive, # 170, Columbus, Ohio 43231.
