Rosemary "Rose" Garen, 81, passed away April 26th, 2026 in Columbus, Ohio. Rosemary was born on May 14th, 1944 in Logan, West Virginia to late parents Emily and Ralph Hodge. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband John Garen, son William Shepherd, brothers George, Stanley, Ralph Jr. and sister Judith, her granddaughter Jessica Shepherd. She is survived by her children Anita (Robert) Woods, Mark (Valerie) Hodge, Jimmy (April) Shepherd, as well as her daughter-in-law Judy Shepherd and step-sons Wayne and Jack Garen, sisters Patricia (Richard) Hill, Brenda (Rick) Tackett, RayLynn (Randy) Durham, Paula (Chris) Hill, brothers William Boe (Betty) Meeks, Cecil (Anita) Hodge and Randy Hodge. Rosemary had many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rosemary put smiles on everyone's faces with her unmatched wit. She was a dedicated Christian and loved to be active in her church, often volunteering into her early and mid 70s. She had a deep love for Ohio State football, and would often act as a coach to the television. That strong-willed attitude carried over into her work as a Supervisor at Grossman's where many know her from.
There will be a visitation for Rosemary at O.R. Woodyard, located at 1346 S High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43207 from 3:00pm-5:00pm followed by a service at 5:00pm for those that would like to say goodbye one last time. In dedication to her love of Ohio State, if you wish, wear your best Ohio State gear.
