Obituary

Ruth Baker Compton, 78 of Columbus, Ohio passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024 at Doctor's West Hospital Hospice Unit with family by her side. Ruth was born at home at the family home place in McVeigh, KY. on December 26, 1945 to the late Willard and Lou (Coleman) Baker. Ruth was the 6th child in the family of 11 other brother sisters.

Ruth attended McVeigh Grade School and graduated from Belfry High School in 1963. After high school Ruth completed training to be a kindergarten aide for the Pike County School System from 1965-1967. She was a homemaker for several years raising her daughters and grandsons before being employed at K-Mart Corporation and eventually retiring from Mac Tools in Hilliard, OH.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Willie Robert Compton, her first born daughter Robin Compton, both her parents and 3 brothers, Luther, Edsel (Pete), Woodrow Baker, and one sister Lilly (Baker) Ailiff. In addition to those were her paternal and maternal grandparents, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Ruth is survived by her daughter Cindy Compton, her beloved twin grandsons Jeremee Robert Compton, Justin Charles Compton, her great-grandson Paxton Lee, also grandchildren Jaice and Kaliyah, and finally her special son-in-law, Mark Haddox. She is also survived by one brother Sam Baker of McVeigh, KY., sisters Virginia (Cliff) Stanley of Pikeville, KY., Marie Mull of Columbus, OH., Zeda Sue (Marvin) Mills of Temperance, MI., Hilda (Gene) Anderson of Morristown, Tn., Anna Blackburn (Rich Herbst) of Hardy, Ky., Lottie (Joe) McVey of Ansted, WV., and Nannette Walsh of Chesapeake, OH. And a host of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and special neighbors and friends Beverly, Sherry, and Lori Mayo, Lola Nichols, and her family doctor for over 30 years, Dr. Francisco Buendia. Ruth also enjoyed cooking, gardening, taking care of her flowers, spending time with family, and loved drinking coffee on her front porch during pretty weather. During the winter, one of her favorite things to do was to watch the snow fall. She loved seeing big snowflakes.

Services will be held at the MYERS-WOODYARD Funeral Home on 587 Main St, Groveport, OH 43125 this Friday morning, March 8, 2024 with J.D. Hite officiating. The public will be welcomed from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. For visitation. Burial will follow at Obetz Cemetery located at 4455 Groveport Rd, Obetz, OH 43207
