Susanna Kauntz, age 92 of Gahanna, Ohio passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 08, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Kauntz; parents, George and Maria Both, and sisters, Kathryn Knight and Christina Thiergartner. She is survived by her son, Michael Kauntz and wife, Roberta Kauntz; daughter, Susan Angel and her long-time partner, Gary Rowe; granddaughter, Corynne (Jeremy) Clem, and grandson, John (Stephanie) Frederick, and great-grandsons, Aiden Hatch, John and Steven Frederick; her sisters, Maria Fleischer and Rosina Hartig, and many more family members. Susanna was born August 16,1932 in Botsch, Siebenburgen (Transylvania, Romania) where she grew up in a close-knit community of fellow Transylvanian Saxons. Due to the progression of events in WWII, Susanna along with her family and much of her community were forced to flee their homes. Traveling by wagon and on foot they made the journey to Salzburg, Austria in the midst of the war. After the war Susanna's family immigrated to the United States in 1950. After entering the United States via Ellis Island her family took a train and arrived at Union Station Columbus where she was met by her future husband, Michael Kauntz. They fell in love and were married for over 60 years prior to his passing in 2011. Susanna retired from Lazarus (Macy's) at 62. She loved to sing and was a member of the Columbus Damenchor for over 50 years. Susanna also liked to garden and had a green thumb with plants. She was a loving mother and will be missed by many friends and family. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 13,2025 from 5-8 pm at the O. R. WOODYARD COMPANY CHAPEL 1346 S. High Street. The funeral service will be Wednesday, May 14th at 10:30 am at the funeral home where friends may call 1 hr. prior to the service. Interment will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery.
