Thilagawathy Somasundram was born on December 6th, 1931 in Parakaduwa, Sri Lanka to the

late Mr. Nagalingam Cheliah and Mrs. Thialnayagi Cheliah. She grew up in Ratnapura and

graduated from Sivali Central College in 1939. After graduating, she became an English Teacher

until she was married to Mr. Kandiah Somasundram in 1953. Over the next decade, she became

the loving mother of the late Surendran, Narenthiran, Manjula, Jeyandran, Vasnathi, and

Raveendran. She faithfully raised and cared for her family, until she moved to the United States

on June 16th, 1996. She peacefully resided in Hilliard, Ohio with her loving husband. In February

1997, Thilagawathy suffered a near-fatal brain aneurysm, but despite a poor prognosis, she made

a complete recovery. She used this precious, new time to love and care for her many

grandchildren near and far: Senthuran, Nilani, Janarth, Krishna, Cynthia, Yathoosan, Rashivan,

Roshan, Mayuri, and Joshua. However, on December 24th, 2001, her husband passed away. As

she grew older, she had the joy of seeing new life in her great grandchildren Ayana, Arish, and

Aashritha. Thilagawathy spent the remainder of her days resting in a nursing home until she

entered everlasting rest on July 20th, 2024. Her legacy of love and resilience lives on through her

family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
