Tony Thongsouk Chanthavong April 1, 1949 - March 10, 2024

Tony Thongsouk Chanthavong, 74, of Columbus, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on March 10, 2024, due to a hemorrhagic stroke, he was surrounded by his family.

Tony was born in Laos in 1949. After schooling, where he went on to be a "Salavat Thahan" military police. He was a self-taught saxophone player who loved to listen to music in his past time. When communist forces overthrew the monarchy in 1975, he fled to Thailand to avoid capture.  It was in Ubon, Thailand that he first met his wife, Helena. After only 10 days of courtship, they were engaged and married in 1976. When his oldest daughter was only 10 months old, they immigrated to the United States in December of 1979. Arriving first in North Carolina and then settled in Columbus, Ohio for the past 44 years.

Tony is preceded in death by his parents Bounchan Chanthavong and Dok Phanthavong; his two older brothers Thanh Chanthavong, Phoukhanh Chanthavong, and twin brother Thongsay Chanthavong.

He is survived by his wife, Helena "Khamphay"; children, Vone (Lay) Chandavong of Canal Winchester, Ricky (Lisa) Columbus, OH, Johnny of Columbus, OH, Linda Chanthavong (David Henry) Columbus, OH; grandchildren: Jayden, Maddison, Brianna, Carson, Nami, Giuliana, Evan, and Mya; his younger sisters Dokkab Nammontry and Dokkeo Sehalath.

Funeral services will be held on March 16, 2024 at O.R. Woodyard Co. Funeral & Cremation Services- South Chapel. 1346 South High Street Columbus, OH 43207. Family viewing at 1 pm and service for family and friends at 2 pm.
