(Velma) Janice Jackson, age 97, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Mayfair Assisted Living, Columbus, Ohio.
Janice was born January 30, 1927, in Harlan County, KY to the late Clelly and Clydia (Emery) Croley. She was the middle of eleven children including one who did not survive past infancy. She has two living sisters, Carol Anderson and Paula Tackett.
Janice graduated from Stockdale High School, Stockdale, Ohio, Class of 1945 After graduating she took several business classes. She then got a job in Dayton keeping books for McCall's magazine. She worked there until she moved back to Southern Ohio.
Janice married Roger Jackson at the South Park Methodist Church in Dayton, Ohio. They married on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1952. They were married for 69 years. She was the loving mother of three children Ken, deceased, (Jana) Jackson, Jackie (Keith) Lehman, and Joan (Alen) Buckeye. She was a loving Grandma to seven grandchildren, Brent (Anne) Lehman, Randy Jackson, Bethany (Derek) Lehman, Bonnie (Brendan) Buckeye, Jeff (Abby) Jackson, Heidi (Andrew) Scott, and Toni (Giovanni) Loseto. She was also G'ma to four great grandchildren Lillian, Rosalie, Levi, Arthur, and a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Janice was married to a big Ohio State fan, Roger, and attended football games for 63 years. They traveled to several college bowl games. Janice was a Bible School teacher for many years. She also was a 4-H leader teaching many young women how to sew and cook. Janice and Roger loved to travel. They visited Brazil, Ireland, England, Scotland, Argentina, India, and more. Janice collected spoons and dolls from all over the world. One of Janice's favorite memories from traveling was the giraffes she saw while on a safari in Kenya. She loved watching them run across the savannah.
A memorial open house will be held Saturday, September 28th, from 10:00AM – 1:00 PM at the O.R. WOODYARD Northwest Chapel, 2990 Bethel Rd., Columbus, OH 43220. There will be a time to share memories of Janice at 12:00PM.
