Walter Junior Gibson, better known as Weg by all who loved him was born to parents Alexandria Sapp and Walter (Peter) Green on April 3rd, 1974 at Saint Ann's hospital in Columbus, OH. Although born in Ohio, he was raised in New Jersey where he attended Woodrow Wilson High School and played quarterback and wide receiver for the Tigers even though he hated the color orange! Walt was a diehard Seminoles, Spurs, Tarheels & Patriots fan and he NEVER missed an opportunity to brag about them. Walt loved the game of football but baseball was his true passion, he was a star pitcher and could throw a baseball over 100 miles per hour (just ask Greg!) and had dreams of being signed to the Yankees.

Walt loved all genres of music but when it came to rap, Scarface and Biggie Smalls were his all-time favorite hip-hop artists....him and Netta battled ALL the time about who was the best between Big & Pac.... it always ended in a tie! His favorite colors are Silver & Carolina Blue.

Throughout his life Walt dedicated his love, time and energy to family, especially his nieces & nephews it didn't matter the issue or situation he was there, he made himself available. Weg was everyone's favorite cousin especially Joanne Scruggs and Shawn (Shawoo) Boles and favorite uncle, and was their "get out of jail free card" whenever they were in trouble because he had NO problem calling us up to ask "what you do to my nephew/niece"! Although he had no children of his own, he was a dad to a multitude of children who claimed him as their own and celebrated him every year on Fathers Day.

Weg loved being around family on the holidays (especially Christmas) when he just knew Netta was gonna give him a whole sweet potato pie no matter how many times she'd fuss at him & tell him no..... she lied every year! (smile Nay). Weg was a big jokester too, on my 21st birthday he bought me a lottery ticket where the grand prize was a million dollars, so I scratch off the ticket and I'm SUPER excited because I had all the little stars in a row meaning I'd just won a million dollars, he said "turn it over to see how to claim the prize". When I read the back of the scratchoff it said I had to send the ticket to the North Pole and the Easter Bunny would deliver the check the following spring! Then he gave me a birthday card with a $100 bill inside and said, sorry, its just missing a few zero's, happy birthday WildFire! He was lucky he was my brother!!

Walt was promoted to Glory on March 5th 2025 and is preceded in death by his Grandparents: Minnie Lee Gibson, Aleck Sapp, Angelee Hughes and Clarence Hughes, Father: Walter (Peter) Green and Step Fathers: Gary Rippey and William (Billy) Frantum, Son: Michael Steverson, Cousins: Shamyra Gibson, Thorinena Lewis and Favorite Aunt: Betty Rose Gibson. He is survived by his loving Wife who is loved dearly Tina Gibson and Children: Taylor, Elijah, Stephen, Cody, Anna & Isaiah, his Mother: Alexandria Rippey, Sisters: Netta Gibson (Eric) Kara Rippey (David), and Beatrice McCluskey. Brothers: Gregory Gibson (Thorinea) & their children, Anthony McCluskey (Lilly), Nephews: Michael (Stefanie), Kenyatta, King, Ky'Mir, David and Anthony Junior Nieces: Alize, LaMia and LaNiaue Great-Nieces Ja'Ziah & Yaniri and a host of other nieces, nephews cousins and friends.

There are no words in existence that will ever describe the stature of man you were or just how much you mean to all of us left to cherish your lifetime of memories. Weg, you will FOREVER be missed, remembered, celebrated and cherished for your undying love, strength and humor. We love you Walt, you were our brother and VERY BEST FRIEND. Until God calls us Home.... we will mourn you until we join you.
