William Herbert
Gloeckner, Sr.
Jun 19, 1947 — Nov 14, 2024
William Herbert Gloeckner, age 77, passed away on November 14, 2024. He was born on June 19, 1947 in Columbus, Ohio to Robert and Virginia (Combs) Gloeckner. William was the youngest of three boys and he was their "wild child." He had a love for muscle cars and fixing them. He served in Vietnam in the US Army with the 101st Airborne. After his military service, he went on to work as a Police Officer and served with the Columbus Division of Police for over 38 years. As he aged, he still had a need for speed; he loved the game of poker and he lived his life to the fullest. He was a storyteller and loved sharing his experiences with anyone who would listen. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; and he enjoyed bonding over politics with his grandson Gabe and son-in-law Gene.
In the last years of his life, he had a long hard battle with multiple myeloma, succumbing to his illness. We find solace in knowing he is at peace and reunited with his wife and son.
William was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Lee (Combs) Gloeckner, father Robert F. Gloeckner; his wife, Genna May Gloeckner, son William Gloeckner Jr. He is survived by his children, Lewis Gloeckner, Kathy (Jerry) Harding, Kimberly (Gene) Aleshire, Jason Harget and Melissa Harget; grandchildren, Gabriel Gloeckner, Quenton Jones, Dakota and Katie Aleshire, Austin Harget, Tina and Bubby Morrow, and Savannah Harding, and Jay Harget; his brothers, Robert Gloeckner and Daniel Gloeckner; best friend, Justin Schofield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests on Monday, November 25, 2024, from 4 to 7 PM at Pfeifer Woodyard Funeral Home, in Reynoldsburg, Ohio with the service beginning at 7 PM with Chaplain Joel Reid, officiating. Military honors will be observed at the funeral home.
